Philippians
What does Paul want us to see and feel as we read Philippians? The Book of Philippians by Alabaster is here to help us get to the heart of Christ.
Refreshing and Beautiful
The New Living Translation is featured in this book, and I found it to be simply refreshing. Familiar passages were given new life, and I found myself getting a better grasp of the big ideas. The design and layout of the book is gorgeous, giving ample white space and isolating certain verses for greater emphasis.
From the introduction, we learn that a deep bronze color was used to inform the invitations of Philippians. “Bronze, next to its comparatives of silver and gold, is a color that can represent both humility and perseverance.” It is seen throughout the pictures, and the theme is beautifully reinforced.
Stunning and Amazing
The photos in this edition are especially stunning. Contrasting scenes both indoors and outdoors, as well as wide shots and closeups are used. I found myself contemplating the holiness of Jesus as well as his humility. The mystery of God becoming flesh and dwelling among us is truly amazing.
The book begins with photos of the earth, seeds, and soil. By the end, you see epic landscapes, some shrouded in fog. I thought of perseverance, and being certain that God will finish the work he began. We can rejoice in this world. The glorious riches of Christ are ours. We are citizens of Heaven, our true home.
