The Nature and Work of the Holy Spirit
How has the Holy Spirit worked in this world? In The Nature and Work of the Holy Spirit, Ra McLaughlin shows how our doctrine of the Holy Spirit influences everything else we believe.
Academic and Approachable
At 192 pages, this is a brief systematic theology. Produced by Third Millennium Ministries and adapted from their video teaching series, this book presents the Holy Spirit in an academic yet approachable way.
The book is broken down to show the special ways that the Holy Spirit works: (1) in the Trinity, (2) in the world, (3) in the church, and (4) in the believer. The book first lays down Biblical roots by showing what the Bible says about the Spirit in the Old Testament and the New Testament. The book then further specializes speaking of the Spirit by his providence, revelation, and common grace.
Context and Clarification
The vignettes throughout the book help give context and clarification to the text. When speaking on covenant grace, Craig S. Keener steps in to remind us that God has always been patient, but God was especially patient with Israel because he had a covenant with them and intended to bless all the nations through the seed of Abraham.
The book ends with a look at the role of the Holy Spirit in the Christian life. He indwells, sanctifies, intercedes, and preserves us. I am grateful that God would send us his Spirit. I am motivated to live in the strength that he supplies.
A Systematic Theology of the Holy Spirit
It presents a robust understanding of the Holy Spirit in the school of Reformed theology. A book dedicated to the Holy Spirit written as a systematic theology is a breath of fresh air.
