God’s Inspired Word

Two Truths About the Bible

Aaron Lee | 2 Timothy 3:16-17 | AWANA | October 24, 2025

Introduction

God is the greatest author of all time.

Scripture is the word of God, the Bible. It contains 66 books written over a period of 1500 years. What does the Bible say about itself?

16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

1. Breathed out by God

The first truth about the Bible is that it is breathed out by God. Some translations use the word “inspired” by God. It means that God wrote all of the Bible. God used humans to write it, and these words were from God. They are God’s words given to us. Because they are words from God, we know they are true.

Application: Believe and trust the Bible.

2. Profitable

The second truth about the Bible is that it is profitable. It is useful for us. Even though the Bible was written a long time ago, God never changes, and his truth never changes. He is able and does speak to us through his unchanging word today. The Bible tells us how to live in the way that God wants.

Application: Learn and study the Bible.

Gospel

Jesus is also known as the word of God because everything he did and said was true, teaching and giving us an example of how we are to live and have eternal life:

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son[a] from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

Big Idea

The Holy Spirit told the writers of the Bible exactly what to write. We can believe with confidence that the Bible contains God’s inspired words.

Conclusion

God not only writes the Bible, but he is writing the story of your salvation:

looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith… (Hebrews 12:2)
